Activities of Delhi Red Cross

Delhi Red Cross is mainly undertaking the following social activities:

  • Running a 40 bedded Charitable Red Cross Hospital in Seemapuri, a resettlement colony (East Delhi).
  • Running a charitable Dispensary in Naya Bans (Central Delhi).
  • Running an English Medium Middle School (Henry Dunant Public School) in Jhilmil resettlement Colony (East Delhi) named after founder of Red Cross.
  • Training in First Aid, Home Nursing and CPR to about 30,000 volunteers every year.
  • Regular workshops on Awareness & Prevention of Drug Abuse in Schools & Colleges in NCT.
  • Regular Health Check-up and Blood Donation camps.
  • Providing charitable/humanitarian services to weaker Sections of our Society and Relief to Victims of natural/organizing manmade disasters.

Delhi Red Cross Hospital Seemapuri (East Delhi)

The Hospital was constructed in 1987. It was to function as a self sustained unit. The primary aim of this hospital is to provide general maternity and child care medical facilities for helping the needy people below the poverty line and lower middle class of East Delhi. There are several re-settlement colonies in the area and large population is benefited from the Delhi Red Cross Hospital. 24 Hrs emergencies, ultrasound, X-Ray, ECG, Pharmacy and Laboratory services are available. It has 3 Operation Theatres and provides specialist services, namely obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics.

Charitable Dispensary in Naya Bans (Central Delhi)

The Hospital has also a Charitable Dispensary in Central Delhi (Naya Bans) to cater to the poor of Lal Kuan and Jama Masjid. The Dispensary is very popular and on an average 30 patients come daily for treatment.

Henry Dunant Public School

Delhi Red Cross runs a middle school in the name of the founder of Red Cross movement in East Delhi which mainly caters to the marginalized of the society. All students of std. VIII class are provided with the First Aid Training and they act as brand ambassadors of the Red Cross as they grow up.

St. John Ambulance Association Delhi Centre

St. John Ambulance Association Delhi Centre is a sister concern of Delhi Red Cross. It is the authorized Agency in NCT of Delhi for imparting First Aid Training. Regular courses for First Aid Training, Home Nursing and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) are being conducted by Delhi Red Cross.

Delhi Red Cross is at present actively involved imparting First Aid and CPR training. In recent years, the increase in natural disasters has prompted the organizations like Red Cross to train more and more volunteers for providing first aid relief measures and to prepare them for disaster preparedness activities. Disaster preparedness activities aim to make communities more aware of the risks they face and how to cope when disaster strikes. The main aims of First Aid are to preserve life, promote recovery and to prevent the worsening of the victim's condition. The First Aider is also trained in dealing with injuries as cuts, grazes, broken bones, severe bleeding etc. The First Aider is also taught CPR which is an important component of life saving skills performed in absence of breathing and heartbeat.

Awareness & Prevention of Drug Abuse Programme

Schools: Start in February 2016, from 1st February 2016 to 15th October 2019 the programme has been conducted in 177 schools in Delhi with permission of the Directorate of Education Delhi Govt. 38303 students and 1369 teachers attended the programme. The response and feedback has been overwhelming. One or more sessions have been conducted in each school.

Colleges: Seeing the success of the programme, it was decided to extend it to colleges as well. A separate film and power-point presentation suited for older age group was made. The programme has been conducted in 11 Colleges of the IP University of Delhi. 1390 Students and 124 teachers have attended the programme.
